Abbeyleix (pronounced AbbeyLEESH) Bookworks offers exquisite, hand-crafted, artisan fine bookbindings...to engage and inspire !

We specialize in fine leather design bookbinding with bas-relief underlays, intaglio, inlays, onlays, filigree, and hand-tooled finishing.  Our emphasis is in offering exquisite books comprised of artisan crafted leather coverings that engage and inspire.  Our particularity is in crafting original and historical celtic knotwork designs (see our Skellig Michael Artisans line via the "Showcase" tab above).

Each of our bookbindings is hand-crafted in premium goatskin leather, Japanese book cloth, buckram cloth, or handmade marble paper.   We also offer chip-carved wooden covers with a leather spine or an exposed coptic stitch sewn binding.  We feature signature-sewn bindings and gilded edges.

Our fine bookbindings are offered on new Bibles, prayerbooks, liturgical books, devotional books and journals for yourself or for your special event (wedding, anniversary first communion, confirmation, brother or sister profession, priest or deacon ordination, etc.), a dedication for your family, or gift to a friend.

We also occasionally offer new, finely bound versions of compiled works of literature, classics, and collectible editions (e.g., Shakespeare, Sherlock Holmes, Jane Austin, C.S. Lewis, Hans Christian Andersen, Grimm Brothers, Peter Rabbit, Winnie-the-Pooh, Huckleberry Finn, The Iliad and The Odyssey, Aesop's Fables, King Arthur, The Chronicles of Narnia, Jules Verne, Charles Dickens, Writings of Abraham Lincoln, Gray's Anatomy, Irish Tales, poetry, and more).

Abbeylaois/Abbeyleix Bookworks endeavors to “sustain the crafts involved with the production of fine books…to broaden public awareness of the hand book arts, to stimulate commissions of fine bindings, and to stress the need for sound book conservation and restoration” (Guild of Book Workers). We are dedicated to the study and craft of the book as a physical object and its influence as such on humanity.
